Fun times with Holly/Catch

A few weekends ago (read: beginning of September), I went down to the creek with some friends and we enjoyed the sunshine, the water, and throwing the ball for one very wet dog.

Holly LOVES playing catch.  She'll play with me while I'm trying to study.

But she hasn't yet figured out how to play catch alone...

However, while we were at the creek, I noticed one sharp little pup totally figured out how to play catch on his own time, without having to rely on a lazy owner.

There was this really fast current running into the creek, with a nice high ledge right beside for a doggie to lay down and get dry.

Or in the case of one pooch, to use as a pitching mound for a personal game of catch.

Waiting for the right moment.

The windup

The pitch!

The chase
Basically, this dog is awesome. And playing catch is awesome, although for the sake of my studying, Holly needs to learn to fetch alone.

Gone to Texas!

There are so many, many things to say about this new step in my life. For one, it requires a change in blog description. For another, well, I'm in Texas.

I actually think that I'm going to like Austin a lot. I love my house and current housemates, and Austin is definitely big enough to be really interesting, but small enough to feel quite cozy. Plus, all the cool coffeeshops will make great chillaxin' joints (not that I will have much time to chillax, what with the teaching and classes and all).

In fact, I got to explore one of those awesome coffeeshops with friend Daniela not too long ago. She kindly took pity on a poor lost soul and showed me around Austin one Sunday, and we ended up hitting up the Spiderhouse Cafe.

I'm not sure how to describe it, but I think eclectic decor with delicious food and lots of Christmas lights just about does it. It's a great place to hang out, and it's close to campus. Plus, on Tuesday nights, there's a poetry slam that some of the students in my department plan to participate in.

Austin's a happenin' place.
